Collection of Blood for Investigation and Characterization of Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) in Cancer Patients with Microdevices
The purpose of the project is to develop microdevice based technology for circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment and analysis from blood samples of cancer patients. The aims of the project include: 1. Design, fabricate, characterize, and optimize the system (device and its housing cassette) for viable CTC enrichment. 2. Demonstrate functional assays following CTC enrichment. 3. Demonstrate molecular analysis after CTC enrichment, for example high performance multi-marker qRT-PCR for CTC detection. 4. Develop primary CTC culture technology, for example by in situ (on-chip) culture or viable cell release (off-chip culture). As a proof of principle, demonstrate anti-cancer drug response of culture cells.
